The Long Beach City College "Growth and Opportunities Project" is a Student Support Services Project funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The G.O. Project is designed to increase the number of students with disabilities who transfer to four year colleges and universities. The G.O. Project is a comprehensive program of academic support and personal development services for low-income, first-generation college, and disabled students to achieve retention and graduation rates that exceed that of the general student body. The G.O. Project serves as the campus home base for this group of students. The organizing principal of the project fosters and develops a supportive academic community and campus climate both within the project and with the college at large.

"DARE to Care: Disability Accommodations training Environment"

This project is an interactive multimedia simulative training program in which faculty learn to identify and handle disabled student issues in their on-campus and Distance Learning classes. This project was developed by the Instructional Technology Development Center (ITDC) at Long Beach City College, and funded in part by a three-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-secondary Education (FIPSE) at the U.S. Department of Education.

Incorporated in 1976, the Disabled Resources Center evolved from giving information and referrals, to providing over seven services to thousands of people each year in the cities of Artesia, Avalon, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Long Beach, and Signal Hill. Most of the staff members are people with disabilities, as are the members of the Board of Directors, who provide positive role models for other people with disabilities. The mission of the agency is to empower people with disabilities to live independently in the community, to make their own decisions about their lives and to advocate on their own behalf. The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) assists Californians with disabilities obtain and retain employment and maximize their ability to live independently in their communities. Working with individuals of every type and category of disability, DOR provides vocational rehabilitation services to eligible Californians. DOR also provides ADA technical assistance and training and funds 29 Independent Living Centers, which offer information and referral services to assist individuals with disabilities live active, independent lives.
